The Event at Rebecca Farm has been honored by National Geographic Traveler magazine in its “Best of Montana in Summer” listings.

The equestrian event was one of six Montana events chosen by editors at the magazine.

Other selections included Pioneer Days in Scobey, Crow Fair at the Crow Reservation, Virginia City’s Grand Victorian Balls, Archie Bray Foundation Tours for the Ceramic Arts in Helena and the annual Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering and Western Music Rendezvous in Lewistown.

“Western, not English, riding may be the norm in Montana, but for one weekend each July, the sport of eventing (an equestrian triathlon of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping) is king in Kalispell,” Maryellen Kennedy Duckett wrote in National Geographic Traveler.

“We’ve been working very hard for more than a decade and it’s always nice to have recognition like this,” Event organizer Sarah Broussard said. “We are especially thankful for the huge volunteer force, including nearly 100 Flathead Valley Community College volunteers. I am most proud that we have taken The Event and made it more meaningful with our fundraising in the fight against breast cancer.”

The Halt Cancer at X campaign raised $80,000 this summer, setting a new record in its third year of fundraising.

Auctions at The Event Dinner raised $26,000; pledges, donations, and parking donations raised $36,000; and the Broussard Family Charitable Foundation contributed $18,000 for its pledge to donate 50 cents for every dollar raised in pledges and donations.

Proceeds will support national research, local community outreach projects and breast cancer awareness. Specific awards will be announced during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

While dates have not been finalized for the July 2015 Event, Rebecca Farm will feature a CCI three-star division, with a longer cross-country course and more difficult jumps. It will be the fourth CCI 3-star of its kind in the nation, and only the second in the West — another important step in providing the best of what U.S. Eventing can offer.
