Plane stopper
Pilots from the 389th Fighter Squadron from Mountain Home Air Force Base in Southwestern Idaho flew to Glacier Park International Airport on Wednesday morning to test an aircraft arresting cable. The cable — similar to those used on aircraft carriers to stop planes — was installed across the runway by engineers from the 219th Red Horse Squadron of the Montana Air National Guard in preparation for the arrival of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds for this weekend’s Mountain Madness Air Show. On Wednesday, the F-15 Eagle accelerated to more than 90 miles per hour, connected with the arresting cable and was brought to a stop within 900 feet.
