Callers attempt to foil drunken driving

Multiple callers contacted the Columbia Falls Police Department about an intoxicated man who tried several times to get into his car before ultimately succeeding and driving off. The man was parked at a Nucleus Avenue bar and was so intoxicated he was lying down next to his vehicle with his pants around his ankles in between attempts to open his car door. One caller followed the man for a while after he started his car, only to lose him when a log truck turned out in front of her.

A nail salon on Nucleus Avenue was broken into during the night, and the air conditioner had been removed from the wall. The owner believed it might have been her daughter’s boyfriend.


A man on Batavia Lane in Kalispell called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to report he had been thrown out of a vehicle. He didn’t request medical, but the bewildered man was taken home.

A storage unit manager on Aero Lane in Bigfork noticed while driving a plow that many of the units had been broken into. He called the police and then the renters of the units who were on their way.

A Whitefish woman was locked out of her residence by her roommate just a week after her husband died. She wanted to get in and get her valuables, but the roommate had changed the locks.

A Bigfork woman was concerned that an acquaintance of hers was starting a fraudulent holiday charity that was scamming Flathead residents out of their hard-earned cash.


The Kalispell Police Department took a call from a concerned neighbor who saw a couple engaging in a fight on Second Avenue West. They were punching each other and the caller said one pulled a knife before the fight broke up.

A Kalispell couple came into the police lobby after the man believed his wife may have been touched inappropriately while under anesthesia and getting surgery.


The Whitefish Police Department took a call from an Edgewood Place resident who had a “namepost” in his yard hit and knocked over by a car during the early morning. They hadn’t noticed it for a few days but just wanted to file a report.

A Wisconsin Avenue resident received two mysterious phone calls in quick succession. One was just breathing noises and the second asked if he was Howard. As he was not Howard, he thought the calls were unusual.


The Columbia Falls Fire Department took a call about a dumpster fire at 7:51 a.m.


The Polson Police Department made an arrest for driving under the influence on Heritage Lane south of Polson at 1:57 p.m.

Police made an arrest for disorderly conduct at 8:13 p.m. on 13th Avenue West.
