Snowboarders saved from mountain
Two snowboarders were rescued from the Hellroaring Basin after going out of bounds at Whitefish Mountain Resort on Monday evening.
The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 6:12 p.m. Monday. Sheriff Chuck Curry said that the boarders had cell phone service and called the ski patrol first, which later placed the call to his office. From there, it was just a matter of pinging their cell phone location.
North Valley Search and Rescue, Flathead Backcountry Nordic Patrol and Big Mountain Ski Patrol had the snowboarders out by 8:45 p.m. Monday.
“They had cell coverage, so it wasn’t too difficult,” Curry said.
The snowboarders were both young men, believed to be between 15 and 19 years of age.
A woman was upset with the sheriff’s office on Monday because no one would arrest her on her outstanding warrants. She called herself in, saying that she has two misdemeanor warrants through the sheriff’s office and another misdemeanor warrant out of Kalispell and “wanted to go to jail.” The warrants totaled $5,300.
A woman was arrested Monday evening in Hungry Horse after allegedly trying to run down her ex-boyfriend with her vehicle. The woman reportedly drove by him multiple times in an attempt to hit him. The ex could be heard egging her on, yelling, “Bring it on.”
A man on Mennonite Church Road in Kalispell spotted an injured goose in a nearby field that other birds were picking on. He called to ask permission to put the injured bird down.
Two men were caught stealing from a U.S. 2 East business in Kalispell on Monday, but one fled on foot and got away.
A Kila man reported that his snowblower was stolen over the weekend.
Three goats were seen wandering around Ridgeway Court in Columbia Falls on Monday morning.
A man wearing dark clothing was seen riding a skateboard on Montana 35 around 6:15 a.m. Monday and he was almost hit by a passing vehicle.
A vehicle was stolen from Park Avenue in Kalispell sometime Sunday night. It was recovered a couple of hours later.
Two vehicles were rummaged through sometime Sunday night on Gordon Avenue in Columbia Falls. A $75 gift card and $45 in cash were stolen.
A man reported that a FedEx package that was delivered to his Franlou Park Lane residence had been opened and the video game that was inside had been stolen Monday afternoon, according to Columbia Falls Police.
A vehicle that had possibly been left unlocked on Crescent Drive was gone through and a woman’s jacket with her debit card in the pocket was stolen. She said the debit card had been charged for over $700 on Monday.
A man called Whitefish Police on Monday afternoon and said he had video surveillance that showed a group of kids building snowboarding jumps on his driveway. Officers told the kids to move along.
A dog got a little too excited at show-and-tell at a local elementary school Monday, nipping a 7-year-old boy in the lip, according to the Kalispell Police Department.
A youth was caught shoplifting at a U.S. 93 North business Monday.
A Ford Explorer was stolen from East Washington Street on Monday and later found abandoned on Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls.
An “Olaf the Snowman” blow-up decoration was stolen from a Fourth Street West lawn by a teenage boy Monday evening.
The manager at a South Main Street restaurant called police Monday evening because a woman about to take a taxi home was so drunk she couldn’t remember where she lived.
A man reported that he had loaned a DVD to a neighbor who wouldn’t return it.
A woman was ticketed for shoplifting early Tuesday from a Third Avenue East North store. A stockroom employee had watched her put a bottle of wine in her purse.
A woman called police while inside a car wash with her vehicle after doors wouldn’t open. About five minutes later, she called back, saying the doors had opened and she was on her way.
A window was smashed out of a Schoolhouse Loop business.
A snowboard was stolen out of the back of a vehicle parked on Third Avenue East.
