A large home in Ferndale burned down Tuesday afternoon.

Ferndale Volunteer Fire Chief Ken Sharr said the fire call came in at 12:45 p.m. and when firefighters arrived, the flames were through the roof.

“It was reported to us as fully involved,” he said Wednesday morning. “The cause of the fire is still undetermined. We’re still on the scene mucking around through the ash.”

The property on the corner of Fernview Lane and South Ferndale Drive was worth several hundred thousand dollars, according to Property Preservation Servicing, the company that managed the property.

It had been foreclosed on and was in the process of being sold. Sharr said he didn’t have a total square footage estimate yet.

The largest of the flames were knocked down in 45 minutes, but crews were on the scene until the fire was fully extinguished at 11 p.m. Ferndale, Bigfork and Creston fire departments combined for about 24 personnel on the scene.

No one was hurt in the fire. The previous owner was in the process of moving his belongings out of the residence.
