Eureka wrestlers capture Lucey title
EUREKA — Eureka had four individual champions and also claimed the team trophy at the Buzz Lucey Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Taking titles were Kahden Bakkila (113), Jonathan Schmidt (120), Garrett White (126) and Joe Fehr (182).
The Lions amassed 163 1/2 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Polson, 134, and third-place Flathead, 116.
“Eureka wrestlers had a solid day,” Eureka coach Danny Lemer said. “The entire team wrestled outstanding.”
Eureka’s Zach Durden (132) and James Dunn (138) were both second. Josh Schmidt (145) and Garrett Graves (152) finished third.
“I knew going into the weekend we were going to be successful,” Lemer said. “We had a very good week of practice. Our attitude was upbeat and work ethic was great. It has been a very long time since we have won our own tournament.”
Bryce Shaffer (103) and Kenyon Fretwell (132) were champions for Flathead.
Whitefish also had two winners — Skyler Bowerman (152) and Steven Quimby (285).
Mike Corrigan (205) was Polson’s lone individual winner.
