Kevin Moore has more to celebrate today than having his pets around for another Christmas. He’s lucky to be alive.

Moore rolled his Ford Raptor pickup truck Sunday morning after hitting a patch of ice on Lindsey Lane near his home on Lindsey Court. He went over an embankment and landed upside-down against a tree that prevented another roll.

He was knocked unconscious, but an emergency option on his truck automatically dialed 911. Before first responders arrived, however, it was his dog Tucker, a Brittany, who dragged him to safety.

“It took 20 to 25 minutes of struggling to get out of the cramped and crushed position in the cab to crawl out the window, where Tucker dragged me out,” Moore said. “I was hanging onto his collar.”

A first responder from the Creston Fire Department found Moore outside the vehicle, lying in the snow, holding onto his dog’s collar.

Ice conditions were so dangerous on Lindsey Lane that morning that the Montana Highway Patrol closed the road for a time, Moore said. Emergency responders and the patrol car had to park several hundred yards away.

Moore busted a few ribs, sustained multiple glass cuts and head trauma. He was hospitalized at Kalispell Regional Medical Center until Monday morning.

“Tucker had dozens of glass shards that were blown into him and myself when the side windows blew and the airbags deployed, sending glass particles like bullets through the air,” Moore said. “I have two heroes for pets, as it turns out. I have the two best pets in the world.

“It’s going to be a glorious Christmas,” he added.
