Muzzleloader not just a flash in the van

A moving crew contacted the Whitefish Police Department after getting started with a bang when a driver accidentally discharged a .50-caliber muzzleloader through the roof of the vehicle. No one was injured.

A 911 dispatcher was able to make contact with a U.S. 93 West man who hung up immediately after his initial call was answered. The irate man complained about road conditions but hung up before more information could be gathered.

A dumbfounded driver reported another motorist with no handicapped tag or plate took up two handicapped parking spaces in a U.S. 93 South parking lot.

An employee at a U.S. 93 South fast-food restaurant reported a man was slurring his words when he came through the drive-through.


A mother in Lakeside contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after three boys, ages 5 and 6, reportedly chased her 5-year-old daughter down during lunch recess at the elementary school, holding her down and poking her with chunks of wood until someone got help. The irate mom said she had been told by school officials that they would not be contacting law enforcement.

A “relationship gone bad” between an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old apparently led to a U.S. 93 South woman’s son being chased by neighbor children who threatened to kill him with an ax. The youth reportedly took refuge in a trailer.

A bird bloodbath on Batavia Lane was reported after someone ran over a whole flock of turkeys, leaving some still alive but seriously injured.

A 17-year-old boy on Forest Drive was transported to the hospital and then to the Flathead County Juvenile Detention Center after his grandmother reported he was “messed up” on drugs and had been drinking.

A man was warned about cutting wood on private property after a West Glacier resident on Belton Stage Road said the man had been stealing wood off his property and neighboring properties.

A “possibly just high and mixed-up” man ran from a deputy after he was reported beating on the door of a Hungry Horse Boulevard bar and not going away.

A U.S. 2 East couple asked for extra patrols in the area after discovering someone had slept in their camper overnight, leaving the rug wet.

Deputies were unable to locate a man reported crawling across U.S. 2 East.


The Coram Fire Department was dispatched to mile marker 192 on U.S. 2 East after a single-vehicle rollover. The driver of the vehicle called 911 a short time later to report he was the only person in the vehicle and that he was unharmed.


Kalispell Police Department officers arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted his wife on Ninth Avenue West. The man was found to have cautions for prior escape, assault, partner or family member assault and resisting arrest, as well as a $5,000 city warrant for partner or family member assault.

Someone broke into a Fifth Avenue West North jewelry store, but didn’t steal any jewelry, instead escaping with a clear plastic tube containing approximately $300 in donations.

A flummoxed First Avenue East man called with questions about a dog “he doesn’t even own” that resulted in him getting a ticket and court summons.

A man was reported for hanging around an Appleway Drive apartment complex and harassing the women who live there, continuing to come back despite being told to leave.

A woman reported her brother and his wife are both heroin addicts and that the woman uses heroin despite being pregnant.

A man was reported violating his probation by drinking and smoking marijuana at a 10th Avenue West property.

A man was cited and advised of his existing warrant after being caught shoplifting at a Hutton Ranch Road store.

A man was arrested for drunk driving after he drove over a curb in the back of a West Idaho Street parking lot.

A person was punched in the face on Woodland Park Drive but didn’t want charges pressed.

Hats and a DVD/CD player were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Ashley Drive.

A trailer was stolen from a Sixth Avenue West North auto repair shop.

A Seventh Avenue West coffee kiosk was burglarized.


A Columbia Falls Police Department officer stopped a vehicle on Sixth Avenue West and cited the driver for driving without headlights.
