Prep basketball roundup: Whitefish boys pound Plains

PLAINS — Whitefish used a strong start to dump Class B Plains 56-33 on Thursday night in a nonconference boys basketball contest.

Class A Whitefish (9-7 overall) went on the offensive early, taking a 14-6 lead after eight minutes of action and upped its advantage to 27-15 at the half. Whitefish then put the issue to rest with a 23 point third quarter.

Art Doorn led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points.

RONAN —Columbia Falls held Ronan to single-digit scoring in the first three periods to pick up the easy nonconference victory.

Alex Presnell led the fifth-ranked Class A Wildcat (12-4) scoring parade with 18 points. Jared Trinastich chipped in 13 points and Grant Stenger 11.

Class B Ronan (4-13) was led by Rhett Duffey’s nine points.

EUREKA — A strong finish carried Eureka to a nonconference win over Class A Libby.

The Class B Lions outscored the Loggers 24-13 in the fourth quarter.

MISSOULA — Glacier struggled offensively in the first and third quarters while second-ranked Missoula Sentinel started and finished strong for an easy Western AA victory.

Sentinel (14-1, 6-1) jumped out to a 23-8 lead and outscored Glacier (7-8, 3-4) 24-12 in the fourth quarter.

Maddie Keast dropped in a game-high 21 points for the Spartans. Glacier was led by Cassi Hashley’s 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Class A Libby (6-10) had back-to-back 12 and 14 point quarters.

Devon Gallagher added 11 points for Libby and Taylor Quinn finished with 10.

Eureka (3-14) was led by Amanda Peterson’s game-high 18 points.
