Basketball roundup: Spartans top Flathead

The Flathead girls (4-11 overall, 1-6 Western AA) stuck with No. 2 Missoula Sentinel (15-1, 7-1) for a quarter before the two-time defending state champions took control of the contest, beating the Bravettes 53-38 in a Western AA conference basketball game on Friday night at Flathead High School.

The Bravettes entered the second quarter in an 11-11 tie with the Spartans, but went cold from the field, scoring just four points in the frame to fall behind 35-15 at halftime. Sentinel controlled the glass in the contest, outrebounding Flathead 30-16.

Olivia Roberts led the Spartans with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jenessa Heine had 13 points and four rebounds for Flathead.

MISSOULA — Glacier rebounded from a sluggish start to drop Missoula Big Sky in Western AA play.

Glacier (11-5, 5-3) tallied just four points in the first quarter, but ripped off 20 in the fourth quarter to close the deal.

Glacier’s Hailee Bennett, who finished with 11 points, was 5 of 6 free-throw shooting in the last eight minutes and hit a pair of field goals.

Cassie Hashley had 17 points for Glacier.

Big Sky (7-8, 3-4) was led by Sidney Davis and Maddy Shaidle, both with 10 points.

Chandler Escalante and Blaine Newman both hit four 3s in the game to lead the Braves (6-9, 2-5) in scoring with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Sentinel (8-7, 3-4) led 23-18 at the half.
