POCATELLO, Idaho — Bigfork junior Makena Morley dominated her competition in the 3,200-meter run at the Simplot Games on Saturday, finishing in near-record time of 10 minutes, 34.03 seconds to win by more than 41 seconds.

Morley was less than two seconds off the record pace of 10:32.41, set by Calgary’s Emily Kroshus in 2000.

“I was hoping to break the record,” Morley said in a press release.

“But, I always have next year.”

The next closest runner was Kenzie Weir, of Kaysville, Utah, who finished in 11:15.34.

Missoula Hellgate’s Miranda Foster finished seventh in 11:28.96 and Bozeman’s Bridget Creel was 14th in 11:55.72.
