Assault on child reported at hotel

A mortified mother told the front desk clerk at a North Main Street hotel that an unknown man had grabbed her son’s genitals on the stairwell — an area not covered by cameras — before exiting through the south door. Several Kalispell Police Department officers responded, but were unable to locate the man at the hotel, in an adjacent shopping mall or at a nearby low-income apartment building.

A “major fight” was reported at a Cooper Lane apartment, with a man assaulting a woman. It turned out that there was a verbal confrontation between a pair of people who were “the wrong people for a dinner party” and left.

A drunk-driving woman was handled by a Montana Highway Patrol trooper after being reported swerving and crossing the lines while traveling at erratic speeds on U.S. 93 South.

A Meadow Court woman reported that she was “viciously threatened” by a snarling dog when she went outside to start her car in the morning.


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received calls regarding a deluge of dog-related disputes on Tuesday.

A Fourth Avenue East man in Columbia Falls reported his ex-girlfriend showed up with her father and was trying to steal his puppies, which were only 2 weeks old and could not be away from their mother. He did not want them to be charged, only to stay away until the puppies were ready, at which point they could have one. The ex-girlfriend later claimed to have been injured.

An Old U.S. 2 East resident in Martin City claimed her downstairs neighbor was hurting his approximately 10 puppies and that she could hear him yelling at them, although she had not witnessed anything.

A worried woman reported her friend had bought a 6-year-old dog from a woman in Hungry Horse and said the living conditions for the dogs were really bad.

A Dorothy Street woman reported a pit bull was running loose and in her yard again, defecating, and that she was tired of it. A man who was taking care of the dog for its owner was told he could be cited for having a dog at large since he was responsible for it at the time.

A Plentywood Drive woman was educated on the county dog ordinance after a neighbor said her dogs run at large and defecate in the neighbor’s yard.

A small, black, fluffy dog was reported running at large on Dawn Drive. The owner was given a verbal warning.

Now back to human news:

A vehicle whose past indiscretions were displayed in a smashed-in left side was reported when the motorist was driving erratically on U.S. 93 North, nearly hitting two cars head-on. A deputy was unable to locate the motorist.

A confused convict called for information after he tried to buy a handgun and was denied. The man said he was only convicted of a misdemeanor — partner or family member assault. He was advised to call the FBI.

Construction tools and other items were stolen from a Forest Edge Trail house that was under construction as well as from a tool trailer, and a neighboring home was also burglarized.

A fully grown, freshly dead sheep was found at the base of Columbia Mountain near the powerline trail.

A propane heater was stolen from a rental home on Montana 28 in the Niarada area.


Whitefish Police Department responded to a U.S. 93 West hotel after a front desk clerk reported guests in three rooms needed to be kicked out after being told for three days to be quiet but failing to do so. Guests in two of the three rooms were kicked out and those in the third were told they would go to jail if police had to deal with them again.

A shocking incident was reported on River Lakes Parkway, where a motorist crashed into an electrical box.

A dispatcher called a woman back when she hung up after calling 911, but the woman was not comfortable giving the dispatcher any information because she couldn’t confirm who the dispatcher was.

A man was arrested on a warrant on Flathead Avenue.


A repentant refuse hauler contacted the Columbia Falls Police Department after hitting overhead lines to his Eighth Street West home with his garbage truck. He waited at the scene for an officer to respond.
