Glacier girls fall short; Bengals top Flathead

HELENA — Glacier gave top-ranked Helena Capital a run for its money before falling 60-59 in Western AA girls basketball action Friday night.

Capital (16-1 overall, 9-0 league), which trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, was led by Micahela Dowdy’s 25 points. Sierra Bignell added 13.

Hailee Bennett scored 13 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to keep the Wolfpack in the game. She also hit a 3 with three seconds left to get Glacier with in one.

“We battled, won the boards, but they ended up winning,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said.

Glacier led 18-12 and 29-24 after the first two quarter stops. The Wolfpack, however, ran into foul troubles in the second quarter.

For the game, Glacier was whistled for 26 fouls to 16 for Capital.

Glacier (11-6, 5-4) plays at Helena High today.

HELENA — A two-point opening quarter for Flathead resulted in an easy Western AA victory for Helena High.

Helena High (8-9, 3-6) led 29-17 at the half.

Flathead also struggled through a four-point third quarter to trail 44-21.

Jenessa Heine topped Flathead (4-13, 1-8) in scoring with 14 points.

Shanna Floerchinger led the Bengals offense with 10 points.
