Another 'drunk idiot' ruins it for everyone

A bartender at a Hungry Horse Boulevard bar contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to report a man “being a drunk idiot” was trying to break the window and had taken his shirt off. The bartender didn’t want to stay on the phone, saying she was just trying to get everyone out of the bar. The drunk and disorderly man eventually left with a friend.

Residents on Lakeshore Drive in Lakeside, Peaceful Drive in Bigfork, and Lenwood Lane in Kalispell reported incidents of fraud. The first two received fraudulent calls from people claiming to be their grandchildren, sick and needing money. The third received an email confirmation stating she had ordered things she hadn’t, and when she called to correct the mistake was asked for her real credit card information. None of the three were taken in by their respective scammers.

A West Cottonwood Drive woman reported her boyfriend was out of control and had punched holes in the walls, thrown a ladder against the living room wall, got in her face and shoved her and locked her out of the house before eventually leaving.

A Lake Five Road woman asked to speak to an animal control officer about an outdoor cat that she had been feeding for three years that she now wanted to have trapped so she could “turn it into an indoor cat.”

The owner of a U.S. 2 East bar was cited after a patron reported the man had a husky that chases people and injured a deer, which was later found dead.

A firearm with two magazines and a surround sound system were stolen from a Second Street West North home while the owner was out of state.

A Bench Drive resident reported receiving several vulgar calls from a restricted number.

Drug activity and recent thefts were reported at a Whitefish Stage Road property.


A working woman weary of her mother’s meddling got in touch with the Whitefish Police Department after her mother showed up at her U.S. 93 South workplace demanding to go to her home and upset that her daughter wouldn’t let her see her grandchildren. The daughter later stopped by the department to apply for a restraining order against her parent.

A suspicious man was reported going into and out of a West 13th Street convenience store, taking bags of chips, candy bars and other items from behind the cash register and putting them in his vehicle. The man was found to be an employee and nothing untoward was discovered.


A First Avenue West woman contacted the Kalispell Police Department to report that she was having issues with a roommate who wasn’t paying bills, and that the roommate’s boyfriend was following her around town, had reported her as driving under the influence when she wasn’t, and was slandering her name in other places. The woman was advised that having a genuine concern for the public was not harassment. She was “OK with that.”

A Third Avenue West woman reported her concern after having a man do her taxes, a service which he had advertised in a local shopper, then being suspicious that he might be targeting veterans and the elderly.

A North Meridian Road shipping company employee called police after a man came in with a package that smelled like marijuana. The man left before police arrived.

A rooftop cook using a charcoal grill on Third Avenue East led to a mistaken report of a building on fire.

No one was injured when a truck and a semitrailer collided on Four Mile Drive at U.S. 93 North, leaving the truck lying on its side.

No one was injured when a minivan and a pickup truck collided head-on at less than 30 miles per hour on U.S. 93 North.

An 18-year-old miniature Schnauzer with “doggie dementia” was reported missing on Crestview Road.

A youth was reported trying to hitchhike on West Idaho Street.

An all-terrain vehicle was stolen on Second Street East.


A concerned convenience store clerk contacted the Columbia Falls Police Department after a perplexed patron went outside when a man threw a dollar bill at her and told her to come out, at which point he reportedly tried to run her over with his car.

Cash was stolen from a student’s locker at a 13th Street West school.


The Lake County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a purse snatching at a U.S. 93 casino.
