Western B: Bigfork boys advance to championship

HAMILTON — The Bigfork boys advanced to the Western B divisional championship game with a 70-41 dismantling of Missoula Loyola on Thursday in the semifinals of the divisional tournament. 

The top-ranked Vikings held Loyola without a field goal in the first quarter to take a 15-2 lead after the first eight minutes. Bigfork led 32-11 at half and by 31 points before putting in the bench with five minutes to play.

Josh Sandry had 15 points and Christian Evans 12 to lead Bigfork. All 11 Vikings players scored in the game. 

Bigfork will play Florence in tonight’s championship game at 9:15 p.m.

HAMILTON — Florence outscored Eureka 19-12 in the fourth quarter to edge the Lions and advance to the championship final. 

Eureka’s zone defense bothered Florence all game. The Lions led 21-17 at halftime and held a lead until the fourth quarter, when the Falcons were able to pull away. 

Chase Bohne had 11 points and Trey Bohne 10 for Eureka. 

The Lions play St. Ignatius in the consolation semifinals this morning.

HAMILTON — Deer Lodge had a huge second quarter and held off a Troy surge in the second half to keep its season alive. 

Gabe Hickman and Gage Tallmadge each had 17 points to lead the Trojans.

Jarred Brown and Aaron Fisher-Ahenakew led the Bulldogs with 12 points each.

HAMILTON — The Bigfork girls outscored Ronan 14-2 in the first quarter and held off the Maidens late to advance to the championship semifinals at the Western B tournament. 

Despite the big deficit, Ronan fought to within two points in the second half before the Valkyries were able to pull away for good. 

Tessa Robertson had 19 points and Lana Berg 10 for the Vals. Aspen Jore had eight points to lead Ronan.

HAMILTON — Fourth-ranked Deer Lodge showed why it entered the tournament as the favorite, outscoring Eureka 36-9 in the first half on the way to an easy win.

Whitney Williams scored eight points to lead nine Lions in scoring. Eureka played the Wardens even after half but was unable to dig out of its first-half hole. 

Lacie Thomas and Natalie Padovich each had 12 points to lead Deer Lodge.

HAMILTON — The Plains girls outscored Florence 22-6 in the first quarter to cruise to a win and advance to the championship semifinals. 

The Falcons outscored Plains 14-6 in the third quarter to cut their deficit to eight points, but didn’t have enough to cut it any closer. 

Kimberly Earhart and Hailey Philips had 14 points each for the Trotters to lead four girls in double-digit scoring. Nikki Schurg scored 12 to lead Florence.

HAMILTON — The Loyola girls outscored Thompson Falls 18-9 in the third quarter to coast away with a victory.

Skylar Hollenback scored 19 points and Makaya Resner had 10 for the Breakers, who will play Bigfork Friday in the championship semifinals.

Erica Sorlie had 17 and Logan Beckman had 15 for Thompson Falls.
