Young actors wanted for 'Wildest West' production
Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre invites students in grades two through six to audition Tuesday for “The Wild, Wild, Wildest West.”
The play is a Western-style “melerdrama” full of heroes, villains and damsels in distress, and a musical spoof of many of Hollywood’s Westerns.
Slick and wealthy Richard Coldheart must marry Polly Wanda Cracker to control the Cracker property. However, it’s Polly’s homely sister, Prunella, who wants to marry him. Meanwhile, our hero, Sheriff Wayne John, has his hands full surviving the hilarious antics of well-meaning but not-too-bright Deputy Doowrong.
Then a bundle of villains, including Snydley Dastardly, Kid Kid and Calamity Jan, attempt to take over Low Humidity Chasm (aren’t you sick and tired of Westerns taking place in Dry Gulch Canyon?).
Auditions will be held at Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre’s after-school center, 833 Grand Ave., Tuesday.
Second- and third-graders try out from 4 to 5 p.m.; fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders audition from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
This production calls for a large cast of around 40. It costs nothing to audition. Cost is $40 if cast in the show.
Those who try out are asked to prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play, poem or book. Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre will have several options available if actors can’t find anything beforehand.
Those who audition should also plan to learn and sing something at the audition. Wear comfortable shoes, as actors will be moving around the stage.
Those who try out are asked not to sing their auditions.
Kids who don’t want to be on stage but still want to be involved should get in touch with the children’s theater. Students can help build sets and props, make costumes and learn lighting and sound. Parental help is also welcome.
Performances of “The Wild, Wild, Wildest West” are scheduled for Jan. 24-26, and Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
