Parents' parking causes problem on Parliament

The principal of an East Evergreen Drive school contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after a neighbor to the school complained that her driveway off Parliament Drive was being blocked in the afternoons when parents were picking up their children, and that when she asked parents to move their vehicles, they called her obscene names. A responding deputy reported that parents were indeed blocking a fire lane and three driveways while waiting for their children.

An alleged employee theft was reported at a U.S. 2 East bar after an employee’s boyfriend came into the bar, shook dice for the “shake a day” unwitnessed, and the employee gave him the jackpot, close to $1,000.

A woman was dropped off at another location after she broke through a door to get downstairs to her children while screaming at her husband and children, making the children cry, at a Foys Canyon Road home.

A mid-50s Sullivan Crossroad man was advised to call 911 back if the situation escalated after he reported his brother hit him in the back. He also said his brother smokes pot, but things were calm.

A passing motorist pulled over on Church Drive and stole a backpack that belonged to a man kite skiing in an adjacent field.

A reckless motorist was reported after weaving in and out of traffic and running a logging truck off the road, the driver of the truck locking up the brakes and sliding partially into a ditch.

A woman was arrested for partner or family member assault after she tried to grab a knife and use it against her brother, also ripping her mother’s shirt and spitting in her face.

Silver platters and silver-plated silverware were stolen from a White Rabbit Lane home, from which a cat was also missing.

A perturbed parent reported a woman on probation was providing alcohol to the parent’s 20-year-old son at a Montana 35 apartment.

A thirsty thief was reported for stealing two cups of coffee from a U.S. 2 East property.


A Kalispell Police Department officer responded to a storage business after a trio of Rottweilers came running down a hill and tried to attack a person’s 4-year-old son. The protective parent fought off the dogs and confronted their owner, who told off the parent. The parent told police this wasn’t the first time this had happened.

A man contacted police after seeing another man accompanied by “several thugs” waiting outside the First Avenue East building for him. It turned out to only be a chance encounter.

Someone tried to break into the front desk area of a U.S. 2 West business, but was unable to gain entry, only doing minor damage to the door. Nothing was stolen.

A pair of shoplifters were cited and released after being apprehended at a Hutton Ranch Road store. They were also banned from the property.


A woman contacted the Whitefish Police Department after her pickup truck became locked inside the doors of a Riverside Avenue car wash. The woman left the truck running and was able to get out of the bay on foot, but was extremely cold and upset that there was no attendant on the premises. The door was eventually opened for the woman who was then able to drive away.

A concerned parent contacted police after a girl on the bus allegedly threatened to kill his daughter. 

A bucket containing fishing gear was stolen from the back of a truck on Park Avenue.

 U.S. 2 at the Hungry Horse Bridge was blocked for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon after a two-vehicle accident at approximately 12:17 p.m. Law enforcement was dispatched to direct traffic in the area, and one lane of traffic was eventually opened shortly before 1 p.m. The road was completely cleared by about 1:30 p.m. Emergency responders were dispatched from agencies in Hungry Horse, Martin City, and Bad Rock.

In another accident, no one was injured when a man driving a garbage truck and a man driving a passenger vehicle were involved in a crash on Helena Flats Road north of East Evergreen Drive.


A Columbia Falls Police Department responded to a Fourth Avenue East North home after a man called while arguing with a woman but refused to answer any questions. It was discovered that the woman, who was drunk, wanted to leave and was upset that people had taken away her car keys. She ended up having a friend come pick her up.
