Dinner performance looks at life in 'Kingergarten'

| January 9, 2014 10:37 AM

Many of the important lessons of life are learned in childhood — share everything. Play fair. Don’t hit people. Put things back where you found them. Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush.

The Wolfpack Theatre Company at Glacier High School will explore these lessons and many more in the Acting 3 production of Robert Fulghum’s “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.”

The show, consisting of 22 touching and thoughtful stories about the journey of life, will be presented at 6:33 p.m., Jan. 13-14 in the Wolfpack Theatre.

This special performance is a dinner theater production. The Black Box Theatre will be transformed into a city park complete with benches and picnic tables. Audience members will be served a family style BBQ dinner during the performance.

These charming short stories by Fulghum feature colorful characters such as: a man whose dream of flying carries him high over Los Angeles in a lawn chair buoyed by surplus weather balloons; a “mother of the bride” who’s staged a perfect wedding until the bowling ball of fate rolls down the aisle; a shy little boy who insists on playing the “pig” in Cinderella and steals the show; and a modern-day Greek philosopher who finds the meaning of life in a piece of broken mirror from World War II.

“I am very proud of this production,” said show director and Acting 3 instructor Greg Adkins. “I love how the play reminds us to be grateful and to show gratitude. The message is a great reminder of how great life is and how great life can be.”

The Acting 3 class gives students the opportunity to further develop their character portrayal skills and discipline required of an actor. Along with a class production, students perform a variety of monologue and ensemble performances, along with experiences to assist the student in analyzing a script and understanding the role of the actor in the production process.

The cast of “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” includes Kara Brown, Anika Fritz, Gwen Hanson, Sophie Joern, Alexa Lamers, Teesa Palmatier, Jaclyn Rensel, Cate Smith and Kaleb Turner.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and senior citizens, and are available at the Glacier High School main office and Photovideo Plus.
