Basketball roundup: Columbia Falls downs Polson; 1st win for Whitefish girls

COLUMBIA FALLS — Ty Morgan scored a career high 23 points and Columbia Falls used a 14-2 run to close out the third quarter en route to a 74-53 Northwestern A boys basketball victory Thursday night over Polson.

Polson led 40-35 with three minutes left in the third quarter when Columbia Falls (5-1 overall, 1-1 league) took charge.

Grant Wallace, Jayce Fagerland and Grant Stenger sparked the Wildcats defensively during second-half surge.

Wallace finished with 10 points.

Jared Trinastich and Stenger were the top rebounders with seven and five, respectively.

Andrew Weltz led Polson (2-5, 1-2) in scoring with 16 points. Cedrick Smith added 11.

Peter Venman and BJ Bach both tallied 16 points to guide Stillwater Christian School to an easy Montana Christian Athletic Association Western Division victory over Bitterroot Home School at SCC.

Stillwater (5-3, 3-0) led 22-7 and 35-14 after the first two quarter stops.

Isaac Neumann pulled down a team high 10 rebounds for SCS while Jaron Neumann led in steals (four) and assists (six).

Stillwater hosts North Idaho Christian School tonight at 7:30.

EUREKA — Simone Craft hit six of seven free throws down the stretch to help Class A Whitefish hold off a late charge by Class B Eureka in a nonconference matchup.

Craft finished with 18 points. Katie Fyall added 13 for Whitefish (1-7), which picked up its first victory of the season.

Eureka, down 23-9 at the half, outscored Whitefish 29-21 after that.

Amanda Peterson topped Eureka (1-6) offensively with 10 points. Evynn Anderson tallied nine.
