Candidate filing slows down during second week

Rep. Scott Reichner, R-Bigfork, has filed as a candidate for the Senate District 5 seat currently held by Republican Sen. Verdell Jackson, who is term-limited in the Senate.

Reichner is unopposed so far.

The only other Flathead Valley candidates filing over the last week were Rebekah Eslick Savelle, a Republican who is running for the county clerk and recorder position, and Whitefish resident Phil Mitchell, who is running as a Republican for a  county commissioner seat.

On Jan. 9, the opening day for filing, there was a wave of candidates entering legislative and county races.
