Volunteer judges still are needed at the Class AA State Speech and Debate Tournament Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at Glacier High School.

Judge coordinator Wendy Putzler said 50 debate judges still are needed. Volunteers may judge both days and more than one category.

No previous skills or background are necessary.

A  judging workshop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Jan. 29 in the office conference room at Glacier High School. Attendance is optional. Information presented at the workshop will be available to judges at the tournament.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to see students at their very best,” Putzler said. “This is the culmination of months of competition and hard work and these students are impressive.”

People interested in judging can register at www.kalispellspeechdebate.org or by calling Putzler at 751-3546.

In other speech and debate news, a tournament championship awarded to Glacier last week has been taken away because of a scoring error.

Glacier was announced as the winner of the Billings Olympiad on Jan. 18, with Bozeman second and Flathead third.

A review of results, however, showed that four points should have been awarded to Bozeman instead of Helena in the final round of Expository Speaking.

Corrected results pushed Bozeman into first place over Glacier.

The final team scoring was Bozeman 154, Glacier 152.5 and Flathead 80.
