Flathead, Glacier swimmers post multiple best times

MISSOULA — Despite a grueling week of practice, swimmers from Glacier posted 22 best times while Flathead turned in 18 best times at the Missoula Invitational on Saturday.

For Glacier, Tessa Howe turned in a strong performance in the 100 breaststroke and Nate Burnham had a breakthrough effort in the 100 backstroke. He placed sixth in 1:06.46.

Jenna Kintzler posted best times in the 200 and 500 freestyle for the Wolfpack.

Teammate Joshua Loyda broke 50 seconds in the 100 freestyle, placing second in 49.99, and had a meet-best time in the 50 freestyle (22.52).

Glacier’s Jake Cirincione won the 100 butterfly (55.29) and finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:07.75).

The Glacier boys were second in the 200 freestyle relay and fourth in the 200 medley relay.

Flathead had several swimmers post state qualifying times.

Amanda Rush had great swims in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Kendra Leaming and Darby Mackenstadt both qualified for state in the 100 freestyle.

Bravette McKenzie Lane was third in the 500 freestyle (5:56.56).

Josh Gruber, a new Flathead swimmer, qualified for state in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

The Glacier boys finished fifth in the final team standings. Flathead was ninth.

The Flathead girls placed eighth and Glacier 10th.

Flathead and Glacier will compete in the Helena Invitational on Saturday. State action follows Feb. 14-15 in Butte.
