Basketball roundup: Robertson, Bigfork girls roll past Whitefish, 52-20

BIGORK — Bigfork bolted to a 21-1 first-quarter lead and never looked back in cruising to a 52-20 nonconference girls basketball victory over Class A Whitefish on Thursday evening.

Tessa Robertson posted a double-double for Class B Bigfork with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Mattison McAnally had seven points and six steals for the Valkyries (10-3 overall).

Haley Nicholson and Simone Craft both scored five points for Whitefish.

Bigfork hosts St. Ignatius on Saturday in Class B action while Whitefish entertains Frenchtown in a Northwestern A matchup.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls outscored Eureka 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 27-14 lead at the half and rolled from there to an easy nonconference victory.

Winter Kemppained had 17 points on 8 of 17 shooting for the victors.

Cydney Finberg had a super all-around game with six points, 10 assists, five rebounds and eight steals.

Kiara Burlage and Allyson Gimbel both had nine rebounds.

Columbia Falls (11-1) was without two starters — Ciera Finberg (knee) and Haley Belgarde (concussion). Both are expected back for Saturday’s Northwestern A contest at Libby.

Amanda Peterson led Eureka in scoring with eight points.

Eureka had 30 turnovers to 12 for the Wildkats.

Eureka hosts District 7B foe Plains on Saturday.

STEVENSVILLE — Stevensville rallied from a seven-point deficit in the opening quarter to claim a 16-point nonconference victory over Polson in Class A play.

Stevensville outscored Polson 21-4 in the second quarter to take a 31-21 advantage into the locker room at the half.

Zach Gavlak led Stevensville, and all scorers, with 22 points.

Andrew Weltz had 18 points for Polson.

Polson hosts Frenchtown tonight in a Northwestern A contest.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Jared Trinastich, a 6-foot-5 senior forward for Columbia Falls, tallied 23 points and pulled down 21 rebounds to guide the Wildcats past Eureka in a nonconference contest.

“He had a tremendous game,” Columbia Falls coach Cary Finberg said.

“He was working hard, very active. When you put up a double-double like 23-21, that’s a special game.”

Columbia Falls (9-3) dominated the boards 46-27 and had just six turnovers.

Alex Presnell tallied 11 points for the Wildcats.

Trey Bohne had 18 for Eureka.

Columbia Falls plays Saturday in Libby in a Northwestern A meeting. Eureka hosts Plains in a District 7B contest the same day.
