A Kalispell man who murdered his young children 20 years ago will appear before the Montana Board of Pardons and Parole in April to determine whether he will receive parole.

Following a paper review on Wednesday, the board determined that a parole hearing for Richard Sweet will be held at the end of April at the Montana State Prison.

Sweet was sentenced to 40 years in prison in 1994 after shooting his 8-year-old daughter, Anna, and 6-year-old son, Erik, each twice in the head at a campsite near the Fisher River. Then he buried their bodies  in a shallow grave in a remote, forested area about six miles south of Libby.

Sweet was last denied parole in January 2009.

Anyone interested in more information or wanting to comment on Sweet’s possible parole may contact the board at (406) 846-1404 or by mail at Montana Board of Pardons and Parole, 1002 Hollenbeck Road, Deer Lodge, MT 59722.
