Legion baseball: Lakers A split opening games at Wood Bat tourney
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Kalispell Lakers A beat the Calgary Blues 8-4, but lost to Ferndale, Wash., 7-5 during opening-day action at the Spokane Wood Bat Classic American Legion baseball tournament on Thursday.
Micah Benson went the distance on the mound in the opener for the Lakers.
Offensively for Kalispell in that contest, Tiler Whiteaker, 2 for 3, belted a triple and drove in a run.
Keaton Mohl went 2 for 3 while Leif Ericksen had one RBI, scored two runs and stole a base.
Defensively, Whiteaker threw two base runners out on attempted steals. Quinn Barber had multiple stops on hard hit balls to third.
In the second outing, Ferndale capitalized on two key hits and two Kalispell errors to score three runs after trailing 5-4 going into the sixth inning.
For the Lakers, Quinn Barber went 2 for 2 with triple and one run scored.
Brooks Krause, 2 for 3, doubled, had one RBI and stole a base.

POLSON — Mission Valley picked up the victory during a wild finish that saw Glacier tallied five runs in the final innings to seven for the victors.
Raymond Matt, 3 for 4, drove in three runs for Mission Valley.
Walter Wood doubled twice in four trips to the plate and had two RBIs.
Nyqolas Gillingham, 2 for 4, also doubled along with Warren Wood, Micah McClure and Raymond Matt. Chris Park and Zach Flickinger had two RBIs each for Glacier.

Tyler Simonson and Eamonn Byrne both went 2 for 4 and drove in four runs. Simonson doubled and tripled while Byrne doubled twice.
Colton Henrie had two hits for Kootenai Valley in four trips to the plate. Dalton Smith and Galen Sullivan had two RBIs each for the Rangers.

POLSON — TJ Olson homered and drove in six runs and Bradley Pichler also ripped a home run to power the Mission Valley Mariners A to an easy victory over Deer Lodge in the final game of their tournament on opening day.
