Firework complaints start day early

| July 4, 2014 7:40 PM

It wasn’t the Fourth of July yet, but the Whitefish Police Department fielded an angry complaint Thursday from a woman calling about yet another night of fireworks coming from behind two local hotels. The proprietors said they hadn’t heard anything, and officers informed the woman that the fireworks were were very possibly legal if they were set off before 10 p.m. She informed the officer she would call again if she heard any booms after that time. No word yet on what she made of the celebration Friday night!

A frustrated dog owner on Baker Avenue reported several loud fireworks at a nearby park made her dog poop in the house.

A young woman in swimming attire approached a vehicle and appeared “out of it.” The reporting party thought she might need medical assistance. She was transported to the hospital to be helped.

An old pickup had been left unattended for a few days in front of a chiropractor’s office on Spokane Avenue. The owner said he would move it in a few hours.

People were parking in No Parking areas and blocking boat access to get to the lake.

An intoxicated pedestrian was dancing in the middle of Montana 40. More than half a dozen calls came in reporting the man, who was eventually transported by taxi to his girlfriend’s house in Kalispell.

The same man made the cab driver pull over and drop him off at Church Drive where he began trying to hitchhike back to Whitefish. The driver said the man was behaving himself, but wanted the police to know.

A very intoxicated man reported his Toyota 4Runner had been stolen from behind a bar on Central Avenue. The phone number he gave officers did not go through, so several bartenders were notified to tell the man the police were trying to call him back.

At least two people were reported fighting on Wisconsin Avenue.

The Columbia Falls Police Department was called about a green Chevy Cavalier weaving on the road and nearly hitting guardrails. The driver was crossing lanes, nearly sideswiping other cars on U.S. 2 before turning onto Meadow Lake Boulevard. The man was pulled over and admitted to drinking, which seemed like a formality at that point as his front end had damage and his rear bumper was dragging on the road.

A woman on Diane Road called about a man who parked in front of some new condos being built across the road. The man got out of his vehicle with a sleeping bag and went around behind the construction site. A guy’s gotta sleep somewhere.

Some contractors on Third Avenue East got into an argument with homeowners about the volume of a generator they were running in the morning. The caller was advised there is no noise ordinance in Columbia Falls.

The South Kalispell Fire Department was called about an animal rescue on Patrick Creek Road at 8:32 a.m.

The Somers-Lakeside Fire Department was called about a dumpster fire in Lakeside at 12:49 p.m.
