Residents of the Evergreen Fire District have approved the renewal of the district’s annual operational tax levy by a wide margin.

The results of a mail ballot election that ended Tuesday showed 901 people in favor, and 652 people opposed to the levy.

The request was for a five-year continuation of the property tax that raises about 25 percent of the operational costs for Evergreen Fire Rescue. It will raise $144,700 a year, which is about $43 annually for the owner of a home valued at $200,000.

It’s not an additional tax, but rather a continuation of the fire district’s previous 10-year voted levy that was approved in 2004.

“This critical funding will help ensure the continuation of professional and prompt fire and EMS services to the community we proudly serve,” Evergreen Fire Rescue Chief Craig Williams said. “The district is appreciative of the continued support.”
