Improvements set for Wayfarers State Park
Montana State Parks is recommending moving forward with an improvement project at Wayfarers State Park in Bigfork
The decision notice issued Friday calls for development of a ranger station with public restrooms on the south side of the park’s entrance road.
Montana State Parks will also proceed with converting the existing, outdated Harry Horn public restrooms to a seasonal park host site and will enlarge the existing park maintenance area in its current location.
State officials said visitor safety would be served by directing ranger station traffic away from the busy entrance boot. They also noted that the new ranger station would be located in an area that provides the greatest amount of vegetative buffering from neighboring private properties, while simultaneously providing a visible and inviting amenity for visitors entering or leaving the park.
It was determined that the proposed action would have no significant effects on the human or physical environment. Therefore, an environmental impact statement will not be prepared.
It is recommended that in a future Phase II, a day-use picnic shelter and associated parking will be constructed if funding becomes available.
The decision notice is subject to appeal, which must be submitted to Montana State Parks’ Administrator in writing and postmarked within 30 days (by Aug. 11). The appeal must specifically describe the basis for the appeal, explain how the appellant has previously commented to the Department or participated in the decision-making process, and how FWP might address the concerns of the appeal.
