Alan ‘Big Al’ Fillman, 70

Alan “Big Al” Fillman, 70, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014, at his residence in Big Arm.

He was born on June 27, 1944, in San Francisco, the son of Frank and Ruth (Findlay) Fillman. He attended schools in San Francisco and graduated from Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, Calif., and later attended Santa Rosa Junior College.

His work history was varied — He built car batteries, manufactured cardboard boxes, sold auto parts and was a reserve police officer for the city of Rohnert Park, Calif.

He was united in marriage in 1962 to Leanna Pelhank in Carson City, Nev., and lived in Rohnert Park for 41 years. Following their retirement, Al and Leanna moved to Big Arm where they were very active in the Big Arm Association.

Al and Leanna were very avid San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants fans, as well as NASCAR fans. He loved spending time with his family and pets, but still found time to enjoy his various memorabilia collections.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Leanna at their home in Big Arm; his daughter, Peggy Sue Hulsey, and husband, Randy, their children Scott of Washington and Rachelle, her husband Levi and two great-granddaughters Carmandee and Jayden of Montana; daughter, Dawn Marie Lockhart, and husband, Barry, of California; as well as his sister, Doris Wood, of California.

Memorial services for Al will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday July 25, in the Big Arm Fire Hall.

Arrangements are under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.groganfuneralhome.com.
