McIver pads lead in Men's State Am golf

WHITEFISH — Brandon McIver boosted his chances of repeating as the Montana State Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament champion on Friday by carding a 4-under 69 for a 137 total after 36 holes and a 4-shot advantage on Tom Swanson of Missoula.

Swanson matched McIver, of Billings, on the second day of play on the North Course at Whitefish Lake Golf Club with a 68 after opening with a 73 on Thursday.

Jake Hedge of Billings is sitting third, 72-71—143, while three golfers, including Ryan Porch of Kalispell, are tied for fourth place. Porch shot a 2-over 74 on the second day. He opened with a 2-under 70 on Thursday. At that point, he was just one shot behind McIver.

Ryan Keenan of Bigfork is tied for ninth place at 147.

The 54-hole tournament ends today.
