WHITEFISH — Defending champion Brandon McIver of Billings came through with an impressive wire-to-wire performance on Saturday at the 97th annual Montana State Men’s Amateur golf tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

McIver finished the 54-hole event on the North Course with a 12-under total of 204. He was eight shots better than Tom Swanson of Missoula and Ryan Porch of Kalispell.

McIver, a junior with the University of Oregon golf team, shaved one shot off his total each day, finishing with a 5-under 67. He posted an eagle on the par 5 fifth hole, birdied holes 2, 8, 10 and 13 and had just one bogey. That came on the 17th hole.

He had the best rounds on the first and final day and tied for the best on Friday.

Porch, who trailed McIver by just one shot after 18, closed with a 68.

Kalispell’s Logan Lindholm was 14 shots back and finished seventh.

Brad Grattan of Whitefish was eighth.
