Whitefish All-Stars fall in semis of Ripken regional
Caldwell, Idaho, defeated the Whitefish All-Stars 8-3 in semifinal play at the Pacific Northwest Regional Cal Ripken 12U baseball tournament on Saturday at Kidsports Complex.
Chad Queen homered in the second inning with one out to give Whitefish a 1-0 lead. Logan Drown and Bradlee Anderson scored on RBI singles in the same inning by Jackson Cripe and Anton Horowitz to go up 3-1.
Caldwell, however, scored four runs in the bottom of the third on two home runs to blow the game open.
Queen also doubled in the fifth.
“We took an early lead, the kids knew we had a chance,” Whitefish coach Lindsay Fansler said.
“Their big home runs in the middle innings just gave us a big deficit we couldn’t come back from. Overall, the kids played hard and felt they belonged at this level of competition.”
Whitefish finished tournament play 3-2, 21-10 overall.
Port Angeles, Wash., beat Lower Columbia, Ore., 14-2 in the other semifinal. Port Angeles, 6-0 in the tournament, then beat Caldwell in the title game 9-2. Port Angeles advances to the Cal Ripken 12U World Series in Alachua, Fla., Aug. 6-14.
