State Legion Baseball: Twins top Lewiston, reach semifinals

LEWISTOWN — The Glacier Twins moved a step closer to capturing the Montana/Alberta American Legion State A baseball championship Wednesday evening with a 6-1 tournament victory over Lewistown in quarterfinal play at Ryan Sparks Field.

Glacier (34-20-1) tallied four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

Vincent Smith, 3 for 4, and Colten Parker, 2 for 4, had two RBIs each.

Colten Gove, 3 for 5, scored two runs, along with Smith.

Jayce Fagerland, 2 for 4, Tyler Murphy, Gove and Smith had doubles.

Murphy relieved starting pitcher Jesse Walburn after four innings. He struck out five, walked two and allowed three hits in four innings on the mound.

Parker pitched the ninth inning.

Glacier will face Laurel today at 4 p.m. in semifinal play.

LEWISTOWN — Mission Valley managed to push two runs across the plate in the top of ninth inning, but the rally fell one run short in a losing effort to Laurel.

Daniel Stamper, 2 for 3, doubled for Laurel and drove in two runs.

Dawson Cortese, 2 for 2, doubled twice for the Dodgers.

Ryan Pablo and Nyqolas Gillingham both went 2 for 5 for Mission Valley. TJ Olson and Alex Killian had one double each for the Mariners.

Derek Peel went the distance on the mound for Mission Valley. He gave up 12 hits, struck out two and walked one batter.

Mission Valley stranded 12 runners to Laurel’s 10.

Mission Valley plays in loser-out action today.

Laurel moves on to the semifinals of the double-elimination tournament to play Glacier today at 4 p.m.
