Glacier Twins' winning streak at 6 games

WHITEFISH — The Glacier Twins A upped their win streak to six games Sunday afternoon, sweeping an American Legion baseball doubleheader.

Vincent Smith, 2 for 3, ripped a triple and drove in four runs to push the Twins past the Rocky Mountain Bandits from Cranbrook, British Columbia, in the first game, 10-0.

Chris Joy and Jayce Fagerland had two RBIs each for the Twins.

Fagerland had the team’s other extra-base hit, a double.

Tristan Steinwand also had two hits for Glacier.

The Twins tallied six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away for an 11-3 victory in the second game.

Glacier scored in every inning but the first and fifth.

Austin Robins, 2 for 4, drove in three runs and AJ Wetsch, 2 for 3, had two RBIs.

Steinwand and Colten Parker both went 2 for 3.

Steinwand and Wetsch posted doubles.

Glacier hosts the Kalispell Lakers A on Tuesday for a single game that starts at 7 p.m.

Adam Frandsen doubled, tripled and homered in three plate appearances and drove in three runs to help the Kalispell Lakers AA defeat the Butte Miners 11-4 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Griffin Field.

Andy Bemis also tripled for the Lakers. He had two RBIs along with Jake Barstow.

Butte rallied to win the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull out a 9-7 win.

Bemis, Justin Wallace and Brett Thomas all went 2 for 3.

Lakers coach Ryan Malmin said mistakes, once again in the late innings, cost the Lakers a victory and a sweep.

“They are self-induced,” he said of the errors.

“Some of that comes with the inexperience we have at the AA level. We only have three starters back. But at this point of the season, it’s time to nut-up and compete,” he said.

Malmin added that the mistakes “are fixable.”

Kalispell is back in action Wednesday for a single game at the Missoula Mavs. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.

MISSOULA — The Missoula Mavericks took a nonconference doubleheader from the Kalispell Lakers.

Kalispell’s Tiler Whiteaker and Keatin Mohl both had two hits and one RBI in the first game, losing 4-3.

Missoula pitcher Nick Yovetich tossed a 1-hitter in the second game, a 13-1 romp.

The Lakers play at the Glacier Twins on Tuesday. The single game begins at 7 p.m.

LIBBY — Oliver Grupenhoff went 3 for 4 and drove in five runs to power Libby to a 15-9 victory over the Rocky Mountain Bandits of Cranbrook, British Columbia, on Saturday.

Libby banged out 10 hits and did all of its scoring in the first four innings.

Rocky Mountain took the opening game of the doubleheader, winning 6-5 in extra innings.
