Ogden gets 4th title

GREAT FALLS — Todd Ogden broke his state record in the javelin on the final day of the Class AA state track and field meet at Memorial Stadium.

The Glacier senior won Saturday’s event with a throw of 210 feet, 10 inches. That broke his old mark by two inches, which he set last year at state.

Ogden’s title in the javelin was his fourth. He is only the fifth boy to win an event four times in Montana history.

Flathead’s Jess Beaman won the triple jump with a distance of 44-9.

On Friday, Flathead’s Matt Quist took first place in the high jump (6-7) and Keyawana Larson of Glacier defended her title in the javelin (141-7).

On the team front, the Glacier boys, 49 points, finished fourth and 10 points behind first-place Missoula Big Sky. Helena High, 58, was second and Missoula Hellgate, 54, third in a tightly-bunched field.

Flathead, 48, tied for fifth with Missoula Sentinel.

The Glacier girls, 28 points, were eighth and Flathead, 20, tied for 10th.

Billings Senior, 100, won the girls title. Missoula Big Sky, 69.5, was second.

Placing second on Saturday were Glacier’s Shauna Williams in the discus (128-0) and Zach Dennehy in the discus (169-8).

Flathead’s Rhiannon Sturgess placed third in the 100 (14.94) and 300 (45.49) hurdles.

Glacier’s Evan Epperly had the third best time in the 200 (22.22) and the Wolfpack placed third in the 1,600 relay (3:23.09).

Flathead’s Chade Gonter was third in the 110 hurdles (14.86) while Sylas Schutt had the third-best time in the 1,600 (4:24.91).
