Senators sweep Lakers AA
HELENA — The Kalispell Lakers AA dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Helena Senators on Saturday, losing on the road, 4-2 and 4-1.
Solid Senator pitching stifled the Lakers in both contests, as Helena’s starters, Brad Tiefenthaler and Joe Spradlin, combined to give up five hits on the day.
The first game saw Helena jump out to an early lead, scoring once in the bottom of the second.
Kalispell would claim a lead of their own with a two-run fourth inning. Adam Frandsen and Walker Malmin both hit doubles to drive in runs for the Lakers, who briefly lead 2-1.
In the bottom half, the Senators scored three and rode Tiefenthaler’s arm to a Game 1 victory.
Brandon Masseen had the third hit for Kalispell.
Spradlin was on fire in Game 2, striking out nine Lakers in six innings of work, and the Senators provided the run support for Spradlin, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead early in the game.
Both teams would score once in the sixth inning, with Justin Rich tallying the RBI for the Lakers.
Maassen, Frandsen and Levi Brenneman each had hits in the second contest.
The Lakers will look to regain some momentum with a matchup against the Butte Miners today at Griffin Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
