When we consider the cumulative accomplishments of this year’s graduating seniors throughout the Flathead Valley, it quite frankly leaves us exhausted.

The Inter Lake has been featuring busy seniors in this year’s “Class of 2014: Multitaskers” front-page series. These are the kids who seem to effortlessly juggle jam-packed class and extracurricular schedules and still find time to get good grades, hone musical skills, play sports, volunteer for good causes and hold down part-time jobs.

In today’s paper you’ll find a special section called “Top Grads” that profiles distinguished students, including many with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages. This collection of vignettes aptly is a salute to “the best and the brightest.” In addition to stellar grades, most of these students also are involved in many extracurricular activities.

If these high-achieving students are indicative of their generation, we can rest assured our world is in good hands. And we need young people capable of embracing the challenges at hand, whether it involves the environment, business, health care or family life.

Now it’s time to celebrate those wide-reaching accomplishments of the Class of 2014. Valleywide, graduating seniors will take that last ceremonial step from childhood to adulthood as they breeze across auditorium stages this weekend to accept their diplomas and step into their futures.

There will be speeches about reaching for your dreams, following your heart and going out into the world to make it a better place. There will be hugs from proud parents and grandparents. There will be caps tossed high, photographs taken for posterity and so many parties.

It’s what these graduates do after the celebrations are over that will count the most. We have high hopes and high expectations for all of our graduates. Congratulations — you did it!
