Hockaday's Plein Air Paint Out sends artists outside

| June 12, 2014 9:46 AM

The Hockaday Museum of Art will hold its annual Plein Air Paint Out event June 18-20, during which participating artists are given the freedom to choose their painting location from any public park or forest area. During the three days, artists will create as many paintings with a “Person, Place or Thing” theme as they can, in rain, shine, or snow,  with those works being sold to benefit the museum.

The event is now in its seventh year and has become a favorite of art lovers seeking acquisition of original works featuring local landscapes and scenery.

Plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. The Hockaday’s plein air event attracts top artistic talent and artists are juried into the event by a local panel of experts representing diverse art-related backgrounds.

The participating artists include: Rob Akey, Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, James Corwin, Claudia Davis, Marsha Davis, Loretta Domaszewski, George Garrity, Margaret Graziano, Jack Hagel, Gail Hansen, Tabby Ivy, Allen Jimmerson, Mary Kelley, Thomas G. Lewis, Jeff Manion, Robert Marceau, Raette Meredith, Dave Mihalic, Wanda Mumm, Natalie Norrell, Nicholas Oberling, Mark Ogle, Joann Sleadd, Janet Sullivan, Linda Tippetts, Dixie Turner and Ron Ukrainetz.

New for 2014, the public is invited to watch as paintings are created. By calling 755-5268 and making a reservation, interested art patrons will receive locations and times to view Allen Jimmerson, Nicholas Oberling and Mark Ogle at work. This is free for Hockaday members and $10 for nonmembers.

The Plein Air Paint Out Party & Sale will be held outside the museum in the Centennial Pavilion Tent on Saturday, June 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission to the event is free and guests may purchase art at fixed prices. Don Beans of Bigfork will be playing live music for the Saturday night event. Works from the event will be placed on exhibit and remain for sale at the Hockaday June 26 through July 19.

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in the cultural district of downtown Kalispell at 302 Second Ave East.  For more information, please visit www.HockadayMuseum.org or call 406-755-5268.
