Commissioners OK West Glacier cabins OK'd

A guest cabin development near West Glacier won approval Thursday from the Flathead County commissioners.

Lindsey Bengtson of West Glacier had asked for a major land-use permit to build five rental cabins on a 10-acre tract about 1.5 miles southwest of West Glacier off Old Highway 2 East. The property falls within the Middle Canyon region of the Canyon Area Land Use Regulatory System.

During the county Planning Board meeting in May, neighbors voiced concerns about the potential impact of the project to water wells in the area. There was no discussion among the commissioners about water issues.

The project was approved with 13 conditions that deal with review of water, sewage and storm-drainage systems, signs, electrical and telephone utilities, landscaping and parking.
