MISSOULA (AP) — Police in Missoula are investigating after a 19-year-old man suffered severe burns in a weekend explosion.

Police spokesman Travis Welsh said the man was standing near a bonfire Sunday evening when someone else threw an accelerant on it, causing an explosion. Welsh says the victim suffered burns on his head, face, chest and hands and was flown to a Utah burn hospital for treatment.

Welsh says University of Montana campus police asked Missoula police to take over the investigation on Monday to determine if criminal charges are warranted.
