LIBBY — The Kootenai Valley Rangers started the Libby Big Bucks Tournament tremendously before being humbled, as they split their first two games of the tournament on Friday.

C.J. Henrie threw a one-hitter in the Rangers opener against the Tri-County Cardinals, leading Kootenai Valley to a 6-0 victory.

Cardinals catcher Seth Kitchen singled in the bottom of the second inning and that’s the last time Tri-County would earn a hit in the contest.

Henrie struck out four, while catcher Gallen Sullivan led the charge at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

The Rangers scored three runs in the first inning to set the tone and win their opener.

Kootenai Valley faced the Moscow (Idaho) Blue Devils in their second game of the day, and unfortunately for the Rangers they were on the wrong end of a one-hitter in the contest.

Moscow’s Charlie Lidean struck out five in as many innings of work while giving up just one hit, a triple by Rangers first baseman Sam Hannay in the fifth inning in a game shortened by mercy-rule.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the game with a six-run second inning as they followed Lidean’s arm to the victory.

LIBBY — The Loggers took an early lead but a big third inning by the Lewis-Clark (Lewiston, Idaho) Cubs shifted the game in the favor if the visitors.

Libby took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but struggled to keep up after the Cubs touched them up for six in the third. The Loggers had two errors a walk and a hit batter in the inning, allowing five hits in the frame.

Libby would get a few runs back in the fourth and fifth but Lewis-Clark kept scoring, eliminating any rally the Loggers could get started.

Will Reichel was 4 for 4 from the plate with a double and an RBI for the Loggers. The Cubs’ Luke White was also 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles.
