Evergreen Fire seeks tax levy OK
Ballots are being mailed out to residents of the Evergreen Fire District seeking renewal of the district’s annual operational tax levy.
The mail ballots are for a five-year continuation of the property tax that raises about 25 percent of the operational costs for Evergreen Fire Rescue.
“The funding from this levy is extremely critical,” Evergreen Fire Chief Craig Williams said in a news release. “This will ensure that we can continue to grow as a department, as well as continue to efficiently and proudly serve and protect the residents of the Evergreen Fire District.”
This is not an additional tax, Williams explained, but rather a continuation of the fire district’s previous 10-year voted levy.
“We are proud of our fiscal responsibility to request a replacement levy at the same mill as the 2004 levy,” Williams said.
District voters in May 2004 approved the $110,000-a-year tax. That voted levy expires this month.
The tax rate for the new request is the same as before — 8.239 mills — but the levy now would raise $144,700 a year.
According to the fire district, the levy will cost $21.67 for the owner of a $100,000 home or $43.34 for the owner of a $200,000 home.
Ballots are due back July 8.
