Normally closed roads to be opened for firewood cutters
The Tally Lake Ranger District on July 1 will open approximately nine miles of road for personal-use firewood gathering in the Johnson Peak and Bill Creek areas.
This will allow temporary access for woodcutting on some roads that are normally closed to motorized traffic.
The area is expected to be open from daybreak July 1 until midnight Aug. 28, 2014.
Flathead Forest roads to be opened are 2904, 11290, 11243 and 10271.
A Forest Service personal-use permit is available for a minimum of four cords of firewood for $20. Woodcutters must have their permits with them while collecting wood.
Maps of the woodcutting areas, as well as permits, are available at the Tally Lake Ranger District/Flathead National Forest Supervisor’s Office in Kalispell.
Permits are also available from several commercial vendors throughout the area.
