Mariners sweep Mavericks
POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners got solid production from their entire batting order in a two-game sweep of the Missoula Mavericks A on Monday night.
In the first game of the twin bill, the Mariners bats came alive, assaulting the Mavericks 16-6 in a game shortened due to mercy-rule.
Mission Valley tallied 15 hits as five different players had a mutli-hit game.
Ryan Pablo continued to be a productive
lead-off hitter, going 4 for 5 while driving in three runs.
Bradley Pichler may not have collected as many hits as Pablo, but his game-high six RBIs on a 3 for 4 night were just as impressive.
Brennen Andrews had 3 RBIs while batting 2 for 2, and Jacob Harrod was joined by teammate T.J. Olson as the other Mariner to earn two hits in the contest.
Mission Valley ace Derek Peel earned the victory on the mound, throwing a complete game with plenty of run support behind him.
He struck out two and walked three in his six innings of work.
The second game of the night was a bit more nerve wracking for the host Mariners.
Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Mission Valley exploded for five runs, grabbing control of the momentum.
Pitcher Brenen Abromeit came on in the seventh and held Missoula scoreless to earn the win.
Harrod had a big night at the plate in the night cap as did Bransen Krebs and Jarrod Young.
Harrod went a perfect 3 for 3 while driving in a game-high two runs.
Young had two hits and an RBI in the second game, and Krebs was 2 for 3 from the plate.
Although he didn’t earn the win, Pichler got the starting nod in Game 2 and didn’t allow an earned run as the Mariners committed six errors. He struck out six Mavericks in as many innings.
Mission Valley will head to British Columbia to take on the Cranbrook Bandits with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
