Libby sweeps Glacier Twins B

WHITEFISH — The Libby Loggers took two games from the Glacier Twins B, sweeping the American Legion doubleheader on Tuesday.

Despite being out-hit in Game 1, Libby erased a four-run deficit for the comeback victory.

The Twins jumped out to a 5-1 lead after scoring the five-spot in the bottom of the first inning.

Libby continued to chip away, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at seven.

Cameron Burkes scored the the winning run in the top of the seventh for the Loggers, and Erik Lauer held the Twins scoreless in the bottom half.

Although he earned the loss, Glacier pitcher Sean Hoerner threw a complete game, striking out ten batters in seven innings of work.

Oliver Grupenhoff led the Loggers at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

The night cap of the twin bill was a different story.

Libby scored seven runs in the top of the third, and after Glacier answered with three of their own, the Loggers shut out the Twins the rest of the way for a 14-5 victory.

Luke Haggerty was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs, and Grupenhoff continued his hot streak, driving in a game-high five runs on a 3 for 5 effort.

Trace Tammero earned the win on the mound for Libby, striking out nine in five innings.

EUREKA — The Glacier Twins A completed two-game sweep of the Kootenai Valley Rangers, holding on to win the first game before coming from behind in Game 2 on Tuesday.

The night started with plenty of drama in Game 1.

The Twins put up two runs in the first inning and worked their way to a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the seventh. They put one more across and were three outs away from a 4-2 victory.

The Rangers rallied in the bottom half, scoring two runs to send the game to extra innings.

Glacier didn’t take their second opportunity to steal Game 1 for granted. They scored in the top of the eight and Austin Robins came on to pitch a scoreless bottom half, throwing just nine pitches, for a 5-4 Twins victory.

Glacier’s Vincent Smith and Jesse Walburn each went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in a run.

Jonny Sapa got the starting nod in Game 1 for Glacier, striking out three and scattering seven hits through six innings.

The Rangers were led offensively by R.J. Glover. He went 3 for 4 from the plate and drove in a game-high two runs.

Gallen Sullivan was 1 for 1 with an RBI for Kootenai Valley.

Dalton Smith carried the workload for the Rangers’ pitching staff throwing all eight innings. He struck out one and allowed just three earned runs, giving Kootenai Valley’s bullpen a rest in the first contest.

In Game 2, the Twins started as they did in the opening game, scoring two runs in the top of the first, but the Rangers responded with three of their own in the bottom half.

After each team tacked on another run in the second, the contest was scoreless until Glacier got hot in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs and taking control of the game.

The Rangers would score once in the seventh, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Jayce Fagerland was on a tear in the second contest, going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Vincent Smith stayed hot as well. His 2 for 3 performance drove in three RBIs.

Colton Henrie was doing everything he could to help the Rangers win the night cap. He had a double and an RBI while concentrating on his pitching, striking out one in his seven innings of work.
