Keybirds top Twins at Ed Gallo opening day
WHITEFISH — A soggy night in Whitefish couldn’t halt the opening day of the 25th annual Ed Gallo baseball tournament on Thursday, and the Glacier Twins A opened up their tournament with a 11-4 loss to the Williston (N.D.) Keybirds.
Williston, having lost to the Kalispell Lakers A earlier in the day, got off on the right foot in the contest, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the night.
Keybirds starting pitcher Matt Kohler kept the Twins off-balance at the plate, and he finished the night allowing just one earned run while scattering six hits in a complete game victory.
Williston put up three more in the top of the fourth before Glacier answered with their first run of the night.
The Twins had a three-run inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 7-4 deficit, but the Keybirds would put four runs across in the top of the sixth to secure the win.
Tyler Murphy led the Twins offensively, going 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.
Kyler Howke also drove in a run for Glacier.
Bradey Miller went 2 for 3 for the Keybirds, both of his hits going for doubles.
The Twins will look to rebound today when they take on the Missoula Prospects at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Stadium in Whitefish.
Williston will face the Calgary Redbirds at 2:30 p.m. at Smith Fields in Whitefish.
