Don't be too tough on the sinners going to church!
This is in response to Sinowa Cruz’s letter published in the Inter Lake on June 3.
Sinowa, I read with interest, and considerable angst, your prophetic statements concerning the present and future conditions of the Christian Church. I do admire your Jeremiah-like passion and your desire to let it all out.
However, I would like to plead the case for all of us sinners who fill the pews on Sunday mornings. Of course, all of those sins you listed — and many more — are on the consciences of church-goers. In my church and many others, the first thing we do at worship service is to lay our sins at the feet of our Savior as we confess them individually and corporately. We then receive the absolute assurance of our Savior’s forgiveness. Can you think of a better place for a bunch of sinners to gather than in church?
The very heart and soul of Christianity is our Lord’s unconditional love of all of His children, and that means evey single person on earth. That is why He sent a Savior. If WE could really grasp the meaning of “unconditional,” we could stop making lists of sins and really live kindness, gentleness, justice, peace, love, acceptance.
“Generation of vipers” is more dramatic, but how about something like “beloved forgiven sinners”? —Delphia Blumenthal, Kalispell
