Mereanus Knabe Petersen, 83

 Mereanus Knabe “Pete” Petersen, 83, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his home on Rogers Lake. He was born July 25, 1930, in Garfield, Utah to Durwood and Mamie (Knabe) Petersen. 

Pete was a correctional officer at the Flathead County Jail for many years and was a retired reserve deputy from the Flathead Sheriff’s Posse. Pete was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served his God and his community, as well as his fellow man. He was proud of the fact he was a WWII veteran. Pete will be forever loved and forever missed.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lamon and Norman Petersen and a daughter, Sharry Moon. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Shirlene Petersen, and five children: Dan Petersen of Price, Utah; Dean Petersen of Plains; Debbie Nielson and Gail Thompson of Kalispell; and Dianna Petersen; as well as 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Pete will be on Tuesday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home, as well as for one hour prior to the services at the church. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1380 Whitefish Stage Road, with Bishop Don Chery conducting. Burial will be in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
