Concerns about Common Core

I would like to say that I am very well informed about Common Core and the testing to accompany it, but I am NOT. I have only learned about it last summer, but it was mandated by the state in 2010. I do not know enough about it to say whether it is good, bad or in between.

I have gone to my local school board and asked if the total adoption of Common Core and the assessments could be slowed down. The board said, “No,” as it was a state mandate. The Somers/Lakeside district will be doing pilot testing very soon. The district will get no results. I don’t think that a parent can ask to have their child excluded from the testing and be given something else to do.

Anyway, since I do not have enough hours in a day to try to sort all of this out, I have gone to a website: montanansagainstcommoncore.com and have signed a petition to try to stop Common Core. I need the time to catch up to what the state Board of Education has put into place.

If you are also concerned please go to the website BEFORE March 10.
