Big boulder crashes near traffic lane

A large boulder “the size of a small vehicle” fell and came to rest straddling the fog line in the northbound lane of U.S. 93 South. A passing volunteer firefighter stopped to direct traffic around the hazard. Fallen rocks also were also reported in the middle of the road 10 miles north of the Lake County line.


A mortified motorist called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after going through a Whitefish Stage Road intersection and having another driver come running up to her vehicle and pound on her window, yelling at her to open her door. She said she may have turned out in front of the vehicle but that there was plenty of room, and that she was now in a parking lot getting her composure back.

A pair of pot-smoking students were caught with marijuana and paraphernalia at a Commerce Street school in Bigfork.

A 15-year-old boy ran away from his West Reserve Drive home after his father slapped him for swearing at him.

Kalispell Police Department officers responded twice to a U.S. 93 South hotel. The night auditor first reported his drunk girlfriend being a “psycho” and destroying a room and she was later reported threatening him while he tried to get his belongings out of the room. They were separated each time.

A group of “skater-type kids” were said to be getting into vehicles behind a North Main Street department store. A woman reported one of them took her medication out of her vehicle but she was able to get it back from him.

A First Avenue West bartender was hit in the face during a scuffle that began after a pair of men got upset following an argument about drinks being brought to their table.

A scale and several needles and pipes were found in a North Main Street motel room after a guest checked out.

A group of filmmakers made police aware of their shooting schedule along Main Street, First Avenue East and Woodland Park Drive.


A Whitefish Police Department officer responded to East Ninth Street after a resident complained that a pair of vehicles were consistently parked across the street from one another blocking traffic, and that she had to fold in her mirrors to get through. The officer reported both vehicles were legally parked and that it was “unfortunate that the width of the road is not conducive to traffic.”

A confused senior citizen called 911 to ask for her breakfast to be sent up. The dispatcher was unsure whether the woman realized she had called the emergency number.

A worried woman on Park Avenue received a pair of threatening calls from an unknown person in the middle of the night.


A pilfering patron at a Ninth Street West grocery store was reported to the Columbia Falls Police Department after escaping with a cart full of stolen groceries.
